Happy National Lipstick day! I was already planning on posting this today, which just so happens to be National Lipstick Day. Total coincidence I swear, I only knew today was National Lipstick day because my best friend Brittany told me. (Brittany has a blog too, check it out here!)
Okay, on to the actual post now. I have always loved wearing lip colors. I feel more put together when I have a little something something going on with the lips. The only issue is a that lot of lip products either feel extremely heavy, dry out my lips or cause my lips to breakout in a weird reaction (sensitive skin people problems.) So when I find a lip product that works I just latch on. All of these products are a cream finish aka no shimmer, glitter or sparkles. I personally just like the look and feel of cream finishes better than other finishes on myself.

From top to bottom: NARS lipstick in Scarlet Empress; Revlon lip butter in Raspberry Pie; MAC lipstick in See Sheer; Rimmel Show Off lip laquer in Celestial; Buxom lip cream in Berry Blast.

NARS lipstick in Scarlet Empress
This is my favorite shade to wear for a night out or to somewhere formal. On the lips, it is a lot more berry colored than it looks in the tube and turns out to be a deep magenta/red shade. The longevity of this lipstick is lovely and doesn't fade in chunks which is always nice. I also love to sheer this shade out for a nice stained look so that it is not overwhleming or too dramatic for the daytime.

Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie
Another berry shade. This color is not as deep as the NARS lipstick and is a bit brighter. Like the name suggests, it is a true raspberry shade. It has a neutral/slightly yellow undertone rather a blue undertone which is nice for my warm skin tone. The Revlon Lip Butters are not drying at all and are extremely pigmented which is awesome. You can also sheer this product out for a nice wash of color like the NARS lipstick. Also, the affordable drugstore price and availability is a plus.

MAC lipstick in See Sheer
I would describe this shade as an everyday coral/red color. For me, I have to be careful with wearing any coral lip products as I feel they are not always the most flattering against my complexion. But this shade has more red/pink mixed in making it the perfect coral shade for me. On the lips, the color is not as bright as it is in the photo above making it suitable for everyday wear. This is also a lustre finish making it a little more sheer and build-able than other finishes.

Rimmel Show Off lip laquer in Celestial
I dare say this is a my lips but better shade. But seriously it really is. Whenever I want to wear a lip color but I'm not feeling too bold and/or it is a very casual day I will gravitate towards this little guy. I like the how lightweight it is and it has a really nice soft natural finish to it. I am not too into the whole nudey pink hype as I feel like they erase my lips completely no matter the shade but this is a nice medium rosy pink color that I love. These are very pigmented so I tend to apply an extremely light layer to get the desired look that I want.

Buxom lip cream in Berry Blast
I am not really a gloss type of person but this is one of the only glosses that I can tolerate. The shade is a bright berry shade (I love berry shades, clearly) but isn't too bright and neon colored. Apparently these glosses are supposed to have a plumping effect of some sort which is why they have the minty tingling feeling when you apply them. Not really sure if they make my lips any plumper but I happen to love when lip products are minty and tingly as long as they aren't painfully so, which thankfully this one is nice and mild. Like I said, I am not much of a gloss person so when I wear this I usually apply a light layer and sheer it out for a more subtle effect. Because this lipgloss is decently pigmented, I still get color payoff when I only apply a small amount which is why I like it so much.
But these lipsticks, laquers and glosses would be nothing without a good lip balm. My favorite and the only lip balm I will ever use is the good ol' Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment. Not fancy at all and does not smell like a basket of fruit or roses but it keeps my lips chapped free, comfortable and moisturized better than any fancy lip balm could. I think I have around ten tubes floating aroung my house/all of my puses. All hail blistex!
There we have it folks. I will now proceed to close this post in the words of Elizabeth Tayler...
"Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick and pull yourself together."
Until next time,
